Drawing is considered the base of painting. The course aims to introduce students to the
language of drawing through observation. Symmetry and proportion and direct study of
shapes and volumes will be learned, which will enable each student to understand drawing as an “investigation of reality and as personal language for knowledge”.
Also the study of male and female body (with a model), still life and the methods used by the masters of drawing and painting will be applied in class.
The painting course aims to teach students the practical-technical and theoretical foundations needed in painting, regarding: the use of color starting with color theory, the canvaspreparation,etc.
The frst approach, for those who are beginners, will be to study or copy a work of art (done by one of the masters of painting). A second approach, for those with experience in painting, will be to decided and develop their own idea to work with.
The course offers, depending on the level of attendance and duration of the course, the opportunity to learn more about different techniques such oil and acrylic.
Our painting course in Florence, for instance, also integrates drawing techniques and introduces the use of color, starting with color theory.
Students will learn water techniques like gouache, acrylic, oil-based techniques, as well as the traditional and contemporary ways of preparing the canvas.
In addition, this course is organized in groups or private lessons where every student has a personalized method depending on their interests.
Florence was home to the great Renaissance artists such as Cennino Cennini, Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo, and Michelangelo, who, as a result, have left an important legacy with their masterpieces. Studying the classic techniques of the masters in Florence is the perfect opportunity to be immersed in the processes these artists used to develop and create their masterpieces.
At the same time, when we speak of contemporary art, we refer to the art that was born after the beginning of the 20th century. Learning contemporary painting in a city like Florence allows the student to fully explore contemporary ideas and materials with the background in traditional techniques.
The course will introduce students to the study of egg-based tempera, according to the
guidelines of “The Book of the art” of Cennino Cennini.
The entire process for the realization of a complete painting will be put into practice, by copying one of the Renaissance Masters Painting in order to learn the fundamental techniques use such: how to prepare their own natural pigments with egg tempera, the use of the “spolvero” technique to transfer the drawing to the canvas and will learn the master
process of applying the egg tempera paint.
When finished students will learn gilding by applying gold leaf.
The course aims to introduce the student to the use of new art languages by the study
of new materials and contemporary art techniques, encouraging the development of the
student’s personal language.
The student will create a project from an idea or a personal thought. In this initial process, the teacher will assist the student and once the project is selected, the proper way of developing it will be explore, considering the most appropriate forms of expression, materials and media. In the case of doing and installation, a study will be done through sketches.
This course is not recommended for beginners, please register for this course only if you
have experience in drawing and painting.
